Weekend Review

Went to more weddings this weekend than I have in my entire life put together. Just kidding, but I did got to not one but TWO weddings this weekend, one in Ft. Smith and one in Fayetteville. A record for me. Cindy was in both of them. I knew both couples getting married, so it wasn't that bad. I did get to go to an enjoyable wedding banquet on Saturday night. I must say it was the most enjoyable I have been to in a while. It was what wedding banquets were supposed to be about: free food, free beer and wine, good live band, lots of dancing, Godly couple who got married, and a good time had by all. Chocolate fountains rock, by the way. I wanted to stick my mouth under it, but I thought the other people might not appreciate it.

The verse about Jesus turning water into wine was brought up a couple of times as a way of saying, "we paid for it for you to enjoy".

John 2:1-10

1On the third day a wedding took place at Cana in Galilee. Jesus' mother was there, 2and Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding. 3When the wine was gone, Jesus' mother said to him, "They have no more wine."
4"Dear woman, why do you involve me?" Jesus replied, "My time has not yet come."

5His mother said to the servants, "Do whatever he tells you."

6Nearby stood six stone water jars, the kind used by the Jews for ceremonial washing, each holding from twenty to thirty gallons.[a]

7Jesus said to the servants, "Fill the jars with water"; so they filled them to the brim.

8Then he told them, "Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet."

They did so, 9and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He did not realize where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew. Then he called the bridegroom aside 10and said, "Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now."

It is, in a way, a parallel to what Jesus did for our life. He paid for it so we can live in freedom and experience the true joy here on earth while eagerly waiting on the banquet he is waiting to put on for us upon our arrival to heaven. What a celebration that will be. It makes me ask the question, "Is there any 'water' your life that you need to let Jesus turn into 'wine'?"
