Prayer Request

Pray for my uncle Ricky Don. He needs some serious intercession right now. He is depressed, suicidal, angry, in debt, on drugs. He needs God's light to shine in his life, to reveal the truth about who my uncle has become and who God wants him to be. Please pray against his anger right now and against any power the drugs may have over him. Thanks.

The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe

Virginia reminded me I haven't picked of the Chronicles in a while. So I am tonight to read a bit more. This also got me to thinking about the movie due in Dec. of this year. Click here to see a cool behind the scenes clip and awesome Narnia website.

Kingdom of Heaven

This looks like a pretty awesome movie. It is about the Crusades and is directed by Ridley Scott , also the director of Gladiator. Click
here to see the trailer.

I want to talk more on the Kingdom of Heaven in a literal since later. I have to go to work now.
Kent mentioned something at the Grove the other night that made me think about this.

Bible MP3

I have a question for the blogdome. I know you can download the whole Bible to your iPod or mp3 player, but a friend posed the question: Can you download individual sections/chapters so one could listen to the desired verses without having to consume the entire memory to just he Bible? Does anyone know?

I have not won my free iPod YET, but I am on my way. I will know more about this stuff when I get mine.

Mission Oaxaca

I am getting really excited about our upcoming mission trip to Oaxaca, Mexico. Part of our trip is a medical trip and we will have 4 doctors on the trip! I along with Dr. Mark Rucker will be trying to learn to pull teeth over the next month or so which I think will be awesome.

I have been given some info on some really good resources for medical supplies for mission trips. If you know of anyone going on a medical mission trip soon, put them in contact with me as there is the potential to get $7000-10,000+ in medicines for a VERY low price. I am going to make some links for future reference for myself and for any others. THIS site is one of the best for the price with regards to medicines..

0330

That is what time it is now. We use military time in the hospital, btw. The past few months most of my call has been spent sleepless. I am getting used to it. Does not mean that I like not getting sleep, but I am getting more adjusted to and expect not to get sleep, which makes my call more enjoyable.

I have not experienced a more trying time in my life, especially with my Christian walk, than as I am now in residency. The Intern year is considered the most "brutal" year in all of medicine. We average 80 hours of work a week, mostly because we work at least one if not two 24 hour shifts a week. The tough part about that for me is that I find it hard to wake up early in the morning or stay awake at night to spend time in the Word. You see, I am one of those "wierd" morning people who loves to get up at 5 am when it is quiet and spend time with God. I am missing that this year. A lot.

The hard part of my job is the people I see on a day to day basis. We are called to show Christ's love to the world. I thought I was good at this, but I had never really been tested until this year. I am learning that if I don't go into each day with a Christ-centered focus, I fail. Working in the ER is not easy. We see many patients who abuse the system, who are alcoholics or drug addicts. These are the people who make most people in the ER miserable. But many of these people are living without Christ and are the ones we are called to show love to. It is a HUGE challange. But people do respond.

I had the privilage tonight to pray the sinner's pray with a man. He came in very depressed and somewhat suicidal. After I prayed this prayer with him, he appeared to have an almost instant peace come over him. The healing hand of Jesus is alive today!

This year is making me realize how much more I need to depend on Jesus for my hourly, day to day walk. I trust in Him, but now I am learning what it means to walk with Him. What it means to show love to the unloved. It is not easy, I still fail, but I am beginning to understand. I ask that when you see ER or scrubs or some other "doctor" show, say a simple prayer for me. I may be on call that night and need an extra dose of grace in trying to be salt and light to a lost and dying world.

God's Beautiful Painting

"Come and see what God has done, how awesome his works in man's behalf" Psalm 66:5

I am ceaselessly amazed at how amazing our Creator is. This pic does not even do Him justice. I don't know what it is about sunrises and sunsets that make me stand in awe. I am drawn to them. One of the awesome things about living in Arkansas is getting to see so much of the outdoors. Right now the daffodils are in bloom, the spring rains are making the waterfalls big, the trees are budding. It is a wonderful time to be an Arkansan and enjoy God's creation. I hope to post more pics in the days to come. Check out Brett's and Miller's Blogs for some more great photo work. Tell them you want to see more pics.

7 Hills

Sounds like a golf course name, or one of those nice communities that is going up around town. But it is far from those things.....it is a homeless shelter.

I met a 19 yo "kid" from there early Sunday morning while I was on call. Well, I say from there, that is where he tried to sleep...when it wasn't full. He was in the ER b/c he had no where else to go.
Now the ER doesn't just take people because they have nowhere else to go or else it would be full of homeless people all the time. That is what the homeless shelter is for. He was there because he had been hit in the knee with a baseball bat earlier in the evening. He had already visited the ER and had a brace put on. He came back because he figured if he couldn't walk, he couldn't get the job he was eager to start soon and who else is going to hire a 19 yo with a criminal record who is homeless. He was there because he thought he had no hope left in the world and he was considering taking his life.

The guy said something that hurt me. It was not a direct or intentional insult and he was not aware that what he said hurt me. In fact, he had nothing to do with what he told me that hurt me. It was OUR fault. The Christians in Fayetteville, AR. Yep, me and some of you who are reading this, it is OUR fault.

This guy, I will call him John, told me about what it was like to live homeless in Fayetteville. He told me how the Seven Hills provides some the basic needs for the homeless here. What disturbed me was that they run out of things....things such as blankets and sleeping bags. Consider that it is cold enough tonight to freeze the water in my pond. I thought to myself, "this should not be. With all the churches and Christians we have in town, this should never happen." I don't know what the Christian population is per capita in NWA, but I know with all the money that is up here and with all the churches, this place should be overflowing with supplies. Why is it not? What am I going to do about it? What are you going to do about it?

Here is a list of the needs there. Maybe my community group or maybe yours can make a difference?
coffee, creamer, sugar
blankets, sleeping bags
backpacks, gym bags
cleaning supplies
laundry supplies
toiletries and razors
paper plates, cups, towels, napkins
single-serving, no-cook foods
fresh fruit
good, warm clothing and hardy shoes
new socks
funds for operating expenses
