Proud to be a "US American"

If you haven't seen this and need a good laugh, please watch. I am not picking on this poor girl, but "I don't care who you are, that's funny" as Larry the Cable Guy would say.

You know you're in a small town when...

...You're on the front page of the local newspaper, along with headlines like "Teens arrested, charged with shooting cattle" and "Rodeo Queen Contestants". I probably need to start watching for headlines I can send in to Jay Leno. You never know what's going to happen here in De Queen...

(the clinic had a ribbon-cutting ceremony with the Chamber of Commerce, so that's why our pic was in there in the first place)

Ronnie's moment of glory

So we convinced Ronnie & Marsha to come out on the lake with us last night, and Ronnie was willing to try wakeboarding one more time. He got up on the 2nd time, and stayed up for at least 10 seconds! But the problem was his board was turned perpendicular with boat, instead of parallel, so his moment of glory ended abruptly with a massive faceplant. But we are still proud of him! I told him I'd blog it so there would be evidence that it really happened. Way to go, Ronnie! He said that he could now check wakeboarding off his list. (sorry for the blurry pic, the camera wasn't ready!)

there's no place like the lake...

Here are some pics of our time with my brother & Sonya this past weekend. I'm sure they'll love me posting these. :-) I didn't ask permission first. But we had a lovely time! There is just nothing like being on the lake in the summer! One of my all time favorite places to be, esp. riding in the front of the boat when it's going fast b/c you feel like you're flying.

Lee got up on 2 skis, then dropped to slalom and had an impressive run for not having skiied in like 10 yrs, then ended it with a graceful faceplant.

My one & only water sport this summer: floating. Can't seem to get enough of it b/c I feel as light as a feather! (a welcome feeling to a prego woman)

Jason wanted me to take a pic of him with his snorkel mask on so people could see how clear the water is. He was looking pretty cute earlier in the day walking along the shore in his fins and snorkel. We had a good laugh, at least.

Lee & Sonya actually trusted their brother-n-law to pull them on the tube. Big mistake. Sonya was a bit terrified after getting thrown the first run. Jason asked me, "Was I going too fast?" But then Lee got thrown the 2nd run. Jason takes after his dad, the infamous Ruthless Ronnie, in his boat driving skillz.

Thanks for coming, Lee & Sonya! Hope to do it lots more in the future. If anyone else wants in on the action, just give us a holla!

Homemade Ice Cream Challenge

I set out on a self made challenge this summer to find the "world's best homemade ice cream recipe". I intended to test different recipes every couple of weeks until I came up with a winner. Problem is, the first recipe I tried was so good I am having a hard time going on. I have made this several times this summer and have heard more than once that "this is the best ever". So, I challenge any of you who read this to help me find a better recipe. Here is the one I been using and it is REALLY good.

The Early Turtle Gets the Worm

Saw this turtle this morning and thought it was kind of funny. I never realized turtles were eating my fishing worms.

What's in a Name?

So, we mentioned earlier that we were having a contest to see who could guess the name of our child. It has sort of fizzled out so we wanted to restart it.

The Rules:
I know it is hard, but we want the first and middle name.
We won't tell until the child is born.
It must be a girls name.

The Clues:
It is a girls name.
It is Biblically based.
It is a name you have heard before, possibly.

The Prize:
$50
UPDATE! UPDATE! Ronnie Lofton has upped the ante and has offered to allow the winner, if there is one, to name his next batch of wine, due about the same time as our child. Now, if that is not incentive enough, I don't know what is.

The guesses so far:
Sarah-Grace
Jamie-Clo Jr
Frese-Eleanor
Stu-Mercedes Sofia
Lindsey-Hannah Kay

Now, we don't consider the contest to officially have started until today, so you may change them if already submitted. Once submitted from this time on, your entry will be final.

small town, big boats

So Jason was in heaven last night, as he got to wakeboard on a REAL wakeboarding boat. His dad works with a guy named Ryan, who is our age, and just bought a SWEET w-boarding boat a couple months ago. He and his wife, Rachel, both went to Fayetteville for college, and have been living here for over a year. Also come to find out they own a male golden retriever, (aka- a potential suitor for Suzie next time we breed her). So we all went out on this beautiful boat last night for several hours on DQ Lake. Jason did awesome, minus a few faceplants. He also tried "wake-surfing", which I'm posting a pic of b/c it is so cool. You're right behind the boat on this surfboard, and once you get in the wake, you throw the rope and just ride the wake as long as you can. He picked it up within 1 try. It's pretty fun to watch. As for me, my wakeboarding days are on hold until next summer. I am content to take pictures and enjoy the lovely scenery, although I definitely was itching to do it last night since no one was on the lake & the boat was awesome. We are soooooooooooooo thankful to have a lake within 10 minutes, and now even more thankful to have met people with a kickin' boat. :-)
