Day 1

Ok, so I still haven't blogged in a while. Again, I will try to keep up.

Today was my first official day to be open. I saw 4 patients, which is not a log, but it is a start. Things will be slow until I have all the local insurance plans running. A new A/C was being installed today our building and it was stinkin HOT in that place. I am sort of glad I did not have a "full load" because I still have a lot to learn with regards to the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system.

We are finally in our house! We officially stayed the first night last week, but since our "refinisher" was SO SLOW we still have so many boxes to unpack. We will get there, though. We will try to post some photos in the next day or two.

Cindy will be 30 weeks next week, which means only 10 weeks to go! It sounds so fast as compared to saying, "we are due October 10". We are excited. Which brings to mind, I need to start back up the "contest" to see who can guess the name of our daughter. We have the name picked out, first, middle, and of course last. We will seriously give $50 to anyone who can guess it. If you guess wrong but cause us to like it so much we change the name, you get $100. Seriously. I will need to make a post just for this.

Man vs Wild

Just finished watching my new favorite show, Man vs. Wild. If you have not seen this show, you are missing out. I really love the outdoors and how God has provided ways for us to survive, if we know how. I learned to love this while in the Boy Scouts where I stayed long enough and worked hard enough to become an Eagle Scout. I have always enjoyed teaching people about the "secrets" of the forest. One really cool thing about the last two episodes is that I have been to both places, The Copper Canyon in Chihuahua, Mexico and the Cloud Forest in Ecuador.

I was looking at questions asked of Bear and came across this one:

Q. What do you always take with you?

A. Flint and striker, so I can light a fire however tough it gets — lifts my spirit always and has often saved my bacon! My Christian faith: high mountains and my time in the military taught me that it takes a proud man to say he needs nothing, and I need my faith. And, finally, a laminated picture of my family tucked inside my shoe.

Bear is indeed a fellow brother in Christ. I noticed on the show tonight that he mentioned a flower in the jungle was "God's extravagant" something... I told Cindy, "I think Bear might be a Christian". This just raised the bar even more.

New Episodes every Friday night at 8pm Central on the Discovery Channel.

Crazy Weather

I was sitting here thinking about how nice it is that it is the middle of July in Arkansas and it is 75 degrees outside. I thought to myself, I wonder what the temperature is in Parker, CO where Grant is? According to, it is currently 75 in DeQueen, AR and 80 in Parker, CO. Go figure. I obvioulsy glanced over the humidity part.

A River Runs Through It

Not the movie, our back yard today. We got so much rain that I really thought about kayaking in our back yard. That is until I saw a snake. There is usually nothing but grass and weeds where you see the water above. It was quite amazing. Crazy thing is, we are still getting more rain!

We are still not in our house. Seems our contractor has a different time table than us. Thankfully, we have parents we can stay with until....tomorrow he says we will be in. Please say a prayer that he will work all night and all day so we can get in. This is getting old. It is just a house, though. But it is still getting old...not staying with the parents, but not being in our house. More to come and pictures as soon as we move in.

Catch of the Day

Here is proof of Ronnie (jason's dad) and his latest catch. This is a whopping 15-lb. catfish caught on a weenie-baited yo-yo in DeQueen Lake. If you want to know what a weenie-baited yo-yo is, I can give you all the details. (and no, it's not my new nickname for jason) Ronnie said this one fish would be the equivalent of about $40 worth at the Catfish Hole. Unfortunately, catfish has been on the bottom of my list during pregnancy, so I just couldn't partake in the feast later that night. But props to Ronnie & Jason for their fishing skillz & strategic placement of their weenie-baited yo-yo's.
Jason thought he was being funny by taking a picture of my belly vs. the catfish belly. I was unaware of what was going on until I saw the way Ronnie was holding it, belly out. I think I've got that fish beat by a longshot. I would hope so, since the fish is not supposed to be pregnant.

More De Queen adventures to come...
